World No.1 Jannik Sinner’s odds to win the 2025 French Open have shortened after thrashing sixth seed Casper Ruud at the Rome Masters on Thursday.
The Italian dropped just one game en route to victory against the world No.7 in the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, prevailing 6-0, 6-1 in just over an hour.
As a result, tennis betting sites have shifted his French Open title odds from +250 to +162 — a dramatic change off the back of one result.
Sinner’s odds are now only slightly longer than those of defending champion and tournament favorite Carlos Alcaraz, who is paying +150 to win at Stake.com.
Heading into their Rome match, Ruud was one of the form players on clay in 2025, with a 12-2 record on the surface and a recent title in Madrid.
Sinner, on the other hand, had played just three professional tennis matches since January, having just returned from a three-month suspension for a failed drug test.
While leading bookmakers still gave the 23-year-old odds of -303.03 to win, the margin of victory surprised even Ruud, as he shared in his post-match comments.
“You just look at the guy and say, ‘This is kind of next-level shit’,” he said.
“Excuse my language, but I don’t know what else to say.
“It’s as near as perfect that I witnessed, at least as a player playing someone.
“Just got to give it to him. It’s just immensely impressive. That’s really all I can say.”
Sinner himself was pleased with his performance, revealing he had doubts about his level heading into the event.
“It was an amazing match today from my side. Everything worked very, very well,” he said.
“From the back of the court I felt very comfortable today.
“We had a lot of doubts of how my performance is going to be because in practice sessions I had many ups and downs. You don’t have the of the real match.”
Sinner is favorite to lift the trophy in Rome, priced at -138.89 with Nags.bet, while Alcaraz is on the second line at +162.
The pair are drawn to meet in the final, with Sinner a -909.09 favorite to beat Tommy Paul next and Alcaraz at -303.03 to see off Lorenzo Musetti in his semifinal.
