Alcaraz beats Draper in Rome, secures No.2 seed at French Open

The French Open favorite is through to the last four in Italy after claiming an impressive 6-4, 6-4 win over Jack Draper.

World No.3 Carlos Alcaraz will be second seed at the 2025 French Open later this month, thanks to a straight-sets victory over an in-form Jack Draper at the Rome Masters on Wednesday.

The pair’s quarterfinal clash was a rematch of their last-four meeting in Indian Wells two months ago, which Draper won in three sets.

This time the Spaniard exacted his revenge, showcasing his brilliant defense and raw power to win 6-4, 6-4 and book his place in a maiden Rome semifinal.

The victory ensures that he es Alexander Zverev in the ATP rankings, with the German losing to Lorenzo Musetti in his quarterfinal just hours later.

As a result, Alcaraz and world No.1 Jannik Sinner will be in opposite halves of the French Open draw when the tournament begins on Sunday, May 25.

“I think it’s great being second seed in Roland Garros, knowing that I’m not going to see Jannik before the final, if I reach it,” Alcaraz said in his post-match press conference.

“I think it’s great. It’s something that I didn’t think about, honestly.”

Despite Alcaraz securing the No.2 seeding, his French Open odds have not shifted.

The 22-year-old is still priced as a +120 title favorite on tennis betting apps, with Sinner next in the market at +250.

Novak Djokovic (+700), Zverev (+750) and Casper Ruud (+1200) are the other leading contenders across top bookmakers.

Alcaraz believes Draper will be a player to watch at the French Open as well, with the Brit’s run in Rome ensuring he will be seeded fifth at the year’s second Grand Slam.

“Well, Jack I think, he has shown the level he has,” he said.

“He can beat everyone in every tournament.

“Of course, Jack is No.5 in the world. He has won one Masters 1000 final, made the final in one of them, as well.

“He’s one of the players who can win the French Open — any Grand Slam, honestly.

“I think right now in tennis we have a bunch of players who are able to win Grand Slams or making good results.

“I think the draw right now are really, really open, which is good.”

Leading bookie Stake.com has Draper at +1600 to claim his maiden major title at Roland Garros.
