Second ODI: England v West Indies preview

England will be looking to build on their huge win over the West Indies in Thursday’s ODI opener when they head down to Cardiff for the second match of the series this Sunday.

The hosts came into that clash riding a lengthy losing streak in 50-over games, but they snapped it in emphatic fashion with a commanding performance at Edgbaston in Harry Brook’s first match as ODI captain.

Batting first, the Brits smoked their way to 400/8 on the back of half-centuries from Brook (58), Ben Duckett (60), Joe Root (57) and Jacob Bethell (82), with every batter in the top seven making a healthy contribution.

The West Indies had no answer, with No.11 Jayden Seales (29 from 14) top-scoring as they were skittled for 162 inside 27 overs.

After that 238-run demolition job, it is no surprise to see cricket betting sites install England as short-priced favorites at -714.29 to seal the three-match series in Wales.

On the flipside, the West Indies are paying big odds of +500 at Stake.com to level the series and keep it live heading to The Oval next Tuesday.

England v West Indies – Second ODI predictions

England hit 11 sixes in their series-opening win, so the line of 7.5 at Stake.com looks achievable. While Cardiff is a different proposition to Birmingham, the home side showed on Thursday that there is power aplenty in that batting lineup.

When you see online bookmakers paying +500 for Harry Brook to top the scoring for England, it is hard to ignore. The new skipper looked in fine touch at Edgbaston, and there is no reason to believe he won’t deliver more of the same at Sophia Gardens.

West Indies captain Shai Hope is the obvious pick to lead the way with the bat for the visitors. The 31-year-old averages a tick under 50 in ODI cricket, and with 17 centuries to his name, he has shown he can go big when he gets settled.
